My approach to counseling is to create a collaborative therapeutic relationship with you, where you will feel valued, understood, appreciated and also challenged in a safe environment. This is essential in a meaning making and change generating process because decisions are made based on mutual constructions from ourselves and relationships around us (i.e., significant others, family, friend, and social inherited believes). Therefore, how to move forward is a decision we will create together based on understanding of how life has shaped your journey so far.
I work from a story telling framework focused on the formation of your experience that helps to enhance your awareness of its process. Through a collaborative relationship, we will construct new meaning to form new choices in life that was not accessible before based on your individual strengths, resilience and resources. Because the power for change is within you and your relationships with others through genuine dialogue where allow you to truly understand your own unique experience through sharing, curiosity and learning. I appreciate the uniqueness of each story and experience you share, so I take tremendous care and appreciation on this journey with you, where i will provide a safe space for you to truly in-touch with your own fear and uncertainty with me. My highly tailored approach in psychotherapy allows you to understand any given event in a constructive way that is unique in your own experience. I will walk with you on this journey of understanding self within the context of your environment, that leads to self-generating strategies to overcome struggles in life.
I offer three strong specialties to my counseling approach: culture humanity, language narrative & Systemic approach. Culture humanity is a way of approaching individuals who are culture beings. Culture is not limited in the paradigm of ethnicity, but rather an uniqueness of who you are as a person relation to your multiple culture dimensions in life (i.e., ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender preference, social economic status, roles in life, age, immigration and education background, and etc.). Language narrative is a modality gear towards finding meanings through formation of any given story. Human constantly making meanings in life by using language to form their understanding (narrative) about their current struggles and/or life in general. Narrative serves a purpose, either beneficial or destructive, which you might had difficulty to understand in other ways. By de-constructing existing narratives into pieces, challenging its purpose, and facing potential fears or demands that might surface when re-construct new meanings, are the factors of the language narrative approach process. Systemic approach in counseling is a way of engaging an individual/couple/family. Any given struggle in life has multiple layers of causes, and we cannot fully understand or effectively treating the "symptom" without going under to its root. With extensive training in family system approach counseling, I am able to engage a client beyond their presenting symptoms from a perspective of intertwined connections between the individual and his/her system (family, occupation, religion, relationship, and etc.).
Please contact me if you have any questions about how I work with clients.
